Assess the arguments for and against the claim the American news media Essay

Evaluate the contentions for and against the case the American news media is inalienably one-sided for radicalism - Essay Example On the opposite side of the coin, it is conceivable that the media may have a liberal inclination and since dissidents get what they need to see that is the reason nonconformists are to the least extent liable to speak more loudly against journalistic prejudice in United States. This paper is an endeavor to investigate the equivalent by surveying the contentions introduced by pundits, which are both for and against a liberal inclination in the American news media (Anderson, pp. 62-68, 2005). Journalistic prejudice alludes to â€Å"perceived property of a news source whereby the individual news source, or the gathering the news source speaks to, has an unmistakable ‘vested interest’ in a reason or activity comparative with keeping up or changing the norm? (What's more, a one-sided journalistic point of view, at that point, would mean just one side, not at least two sides, of an issue is presented† (Alterman, pp. 210-212, 2004). Pundits preferring the presence of a liberal inclination present numerous investigations which uncover that there are unmistakably more democrat columnists when contrasted with republican writers. For instance, an investigation led in 1999 by the American Society of Newspaper editors uncovered that 61 percent of the newsroom respondents recognized themselves as democrats or their considerations look to some extent like that of democrats. Notwithstanding, just a simple 10 percent of newsroom respondents recognized that they either are republicans or accept that their considerations are spoken to by the republican goals. Moreover, these rates change when one thinks about the little papers. The quantity of law based supporters’ drops down to 48 percent and the number for republicans ascend to 21 percent. This discussion got more warmth when the figures of the sums gave to law based and republican gathering from the workers of NBC, CBS and ABC made advances on the scene. The Democ ratic Party got the gifts of more than 1 million US dollars from roughly 1160

Proven Step-by-Step Guide on Broken Link Building

Proven Step-by-Step Guide on Broken Link Building Search engine optimization (SEO) is among the most useful strategies businesses need to implement in order to enhance their online presence and attract more customers.Link building is among the best SEO tactics companies can use and broken link building is one method of creating backlinks to your site. © Shutterstock.com | MorrowindIn this guide, we’ll explain what broken link building is all about and how it could be an effective strategy for your business. We’ll also provide you a simple six-step guide to creating a successful broken link building strategy.BROKEN LINK BUILDING IN A NUTSHELLYou can understand broken link building by analyzing the words one-by-one.Broken means “not functioning properly”Link means “anything serving to connect one part or thing with another”Building means “to construct by assembling and joining parts”Therefore, broken link building is a method of taking non-functioning links and building them back up again. It’s a technique closely associated with search engine optimization (SEO), as it can help businesses replace broken links with their own.By using the broken link building strategy, you acquire a link to your website simply by pointing out broken links on someone else’s website. Instead of having to create links from scratch, y ou can go after existing, yet non-operational links. The strategy works in its simplest form like this:You discover a broken link on a website. You contact the site’s owner and point out the non-operational link, as well as ask her to replace it with a link to your website.Let’s say your business works in the flower industry. You might discover that an article about mother’s day flowers on a popular blog includes broken links. Perhaps the links lead to a 404 page. But the link, with its keywords, is a perfect fit for your business. You can contact the owner of the blog and inform them about the broken link. Naturally, the blog won’t benefit having articles with broken links and readers will quickly find them annoying and uninformative. While you inform the owner about the broken link, you can also ask him or her to replace the link with a link to your website. Since your link is a perfect fit, the owner doesn’t need to change the article around, but can simply replace the non- operational link with a working one. This is how you can get backlinks using the broken link building method. WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BROKEN LINK BUILDING?As mentioned above, broken link building is one of the SEO strategies businesses could use. The practice has become somewhat popular, driven by the many benefits it offers.Firstly, broken link building works because the Internet is full of non-operational links. HowStuffWorks explained in its article on the subject, how the links on its site can become broken as quickly as in a few months. The reason behind the causes of broken links varies, but the disruption and annoyance of encountering a broken link remain the same.Essentially, the practice of broken link building isn’t just about boosting your business. It is about making the Internet a better place for its users.Underlying this altruistic benefit are tangible advantages to your business. Broken link building is a quick way to increase your link numbers and thus enhance your SEO. You don’t often need to create new content or contacts with website owners, as you are targeting non-operational but existing links that fit your existing content. There’s no negotiating of content swaps.Even if you need to create original content to fit around a broken link, you’ll be creating it based on a real need. You’re not shooting in the dark, trying to figure out what third-party sites would like. You are taking existing links and fitting content around them.Sites can be much more open to your suggestion of replacement, as you aren’t simply trying to sell your own business. You are essentially helping them out first. Broken link building works on the principle of reciprocity. The helpful act of pointing out broken links can lead to a new relationship and improve your link building further. Therefore, it benefits both of you to replace broken links. The process can be a quick way of gaining links. All it can take is a simple e-mail or social media message to t he site’s owner. If they find your link useful, then you could have gained a new link in a manner of minutes. However, you shouldn’t be overly optimistic about time-saving. Contacting site owners can take its time and not everyone is simply going to replace the broken link with what you are offering. But the below steps should help increase the effectiveness of your strategy and limit the negative results. Finally, in a world of competitive SEO-strategies, broken link building can be exceptionally good for your business. The strategy is still relatively new in terms of link building methods and businesses aren’t yet using it as a main tactic. This could yield better results for your organization.SIX STEPS TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL BROKEN LINK BUILDING STRATEGYStep One: Selecting the right toolsA proper broken link building tactic will require the use of tools. You need them mainly to cut down the time it takes to locate broken links and to contact the website owners. Here’s a sele ction of tools that’ll help you get started with finding broken links:Check My Links Google Chrome extension â€" The extension for Chrome browser is a quick way to check for broken links. When you install the extension, it’ll show as a checkmark icon next to the address bar. By clicking it, it’ll scan through the links on the page. Broken links are highlighted in red showcasing the specific error behind the link.Domain Hunter plus â€" Domain Hunter plus is similar to the above extension. But the additional benefit is how it shows if the link domain is available and the number of links leading to it. This could be good, if you are looking to obtain new domains.Xenu’s Link Sleuth â€" The above tools are good for small and medium broken link building operations. If you want to scale your efforts, get this tool. It allows you to check the links on hundreds of pages at once. You should also get a tool that makes e-mailing the site owners easier. In fact, if you are using Gmail, yo u can enjoy their built-in feature for this purpose. The feature is called Canned Responses and you can find it under the “Settings” tab. This tool allows you to create a template for contacting site owners, cutting down the time you need to spend writing messages. The above tools are straightforward and free to use. Play with them to get a better feel at how they work before you start actively looking for broken links. YouTube has good tutorials for using the above tools. For instance, check out this video on Check My Links: Step Two: Finding broken linksOnce you have the right tools, you can start looking for broken links. There are three main ways to find broken links:Selecting a particular domain. You’ll probably know specific domains, which you’d love to get a link from. For example, you might be a finance business hoping to get a link on Mint.com.You can either visit this website and check it with Check My Links or Domain Hunter or use Xenu to scout the site. Double chec k the link to make sure it’s non operational and check the link target quality (next step).Choosing sites within your business niche. You could also find broken links from unknown sites by searching for sites within your business niche. You can combine relevant keywords in your niche and look for sites with links on offer. The search strings you could be using include:keyword + “resources”keyword + intitle:blogrollsite:.gov keyword + “links”keyword + “related links”Again, once you’ve found suitable sites with broken links you can establish link target quality and contact the link owners.Searching sites by keywords. Finally, you can look for broken links with your targeted keyword. Perhaps you have created content which you want to use for link building. Define the specific keywords for that content and use search engines to find quality sites around the keywords.Use a tool like Ahrefs to find inbound links to the top sites that came up with your search. This allows yo u to find websites that have linked to these quality articles within your niche. Check these sites for broken link and suggest your own link as a replacement. With all of the above methods, it’s auspicious to create a spreadsheet for your targeted broken links. Simple include the URL of the site with broken links and the URL and keyword of the broken link. This allows you to create a list of broken links, which you can use once you start contacting the owners (step five).Step Three: Determining link target qualityWhile the Internet is certainly full of broken links, not all of these links are worth the time and effort. As with all SEO, broken link building is only beneficial if you target high quality links. What makes a site worth targeting?Noticeable page rankingSolid social media presence, including high levels of sharing and followersQuality website, with good web design and relatable, high-quality contentOn the other hand, the sites you don’t want to target, even if they have broken links that suit your purpose, consist:Plenty of links, with the sites purpose clearly simply being a link spamming domainActual spam links, such as inappropriate contentOver 10 broken links in the site, as it shows the site’s owner is clearly not interested in maintaining a healthy siteIn most instances, a quick glance on the site can show whether you are dealing with a real, quality website or just a ‘spammy’ domain.Above all, you need to make a decision as a business whether you want your link to appear on the site or not. Therefore, don’t simply look at the page with the broken link, but get an overall feel of the website. For example, the site might feature a suitable broken link and be a relatively good quality website, but include certain inappropriate elements you don’t want to associate with your business. For example, an alternative medicine site or a politically oriented website might not fit your brand image.Remove the low link targets from your spreadshe et. You could even give them your own ranking and start contacting the higher value sites first.Step Four: Choosing replacement contentAs quickly mentioned above, there are ways you can target broken links: either by replacing bad links with existing content or by creating new content around broken links. The first tactic of picking from your existing content is naturally easier. You don’t need to waste time creating content, but can simply find broken links that are directly related to your content. Ensure the content you are using as the replacement fits the link naturally. The better the match, the higher your chances are of receiving a link back.On the other hand, if you find broken links on quality websites, which could suit your business, you shouldn’t shy away from creating new content around it. If you have a business blog, you can write a short post that would be a good fit for the link or add more information to your site. For quality sites, this can be definitely worth the effort.Step Five: Contacting the website ownerWhen you’ve found the broken links, checked the quality of the website and chosen the content you want to replace the link with, it’s time to start contacting the site owners. You can great a template, with the Google tool mentioned earlier, or simply write a Word-document that you can copy/paste.When writing the e-mail, keep in mind the characteristics of a good e-mail:Personalized message â€" Even though you are using a template, you should always tweak the individual e-mail to ensure you use personalized language. You don’t want the e-mail to feel like a template message. Always remember to include something about the specific site or business you are targeting to give the e-mail a personalized and thoughtful feel.Short message â€" Don’t blabber on, but go straight to point and keep it short. People don’t like reading e-mails that take an hour to go through.Professional language â€" Be professional, but friendly. Use lan guage that is concise, clear and on the point. You want the e-mail to highlight the quality and value of your business.Polite language â€" Don’t sound threatening or rude in your e-mail. You don’t want to force or bully the site’s owner to use your link. Indeed, make them feel like you are trying to help them instead of aiming for personal profit.Overall, make sure you point out the exact link that’s broken and suggest a replacement. Mention the URLs in the e-mail, as you want the owner to be able to view the content you’d like to replace the non-operational link with.Furthermore, focus on the benefits to the site owner, not how it helps your business. For example, talk about the annoyance of broken links and the benefits of your content for the site’s readers. It can also be beneficial to point out all of the broken links on the page, instead of simply mentioning the link you are after. You could even include other link replacements on their place.Create an overall temp late with the above points in mind. But remember to always customize the message before sending it out!Once you got the template ready, you need to find the right contact information for each site you are targeting. Most quality sites would have contact information readily available. You can also engage the owner on social media, if there’s no contact template or e-mail address on the site.In fact, websites like LinkedIn can be a better way to get in touch. This is because e-mails are quickly filled with messages, but LinkedIn messages stand out.Step Six: Analyzing your resultsThe work isn’t over once you’ve hit the send button. Just like any other SEO strategy, broken link building’s effectiveness should be measured and analysed. This can help you better understand whether it is worth the time and effort for your business.Tracking your broken link building tactic and its success rate will ensure:You don’t waste time contacting the same sites (repeated e-mails to the same site are unlikely going to improve the end result and you might end up hurting your reputation, as you’ll be seen as a spammer). You are able to calculate the return on investment (ROI).Improve the success rate by fine-tuning your contact template and broken link building methods.Use a simple spreadsheet for monitoring your broken link building success. Create a template with the following information:The website with the broken linkThe broken URLThe URL replacement you are suggestingDate of contactPossible follow up contact (It’s OK to send a follow-up to the same person, as they might have simply missed the first message. Just don’t start spamming them.)Method of contact (e-mail, LinkedIn, etc.)If you are testing out different template models, include the template you used in this particular case.Date of replyInteraction with the clientDid they say ‘no’ or ‘yes’?Did link change?Monitor whether the link changed by checking the site manually or through a link database. Notice that owners might sometimes change the links as requested even if they don’t reply to your e-mail. On the other hand, you might get ‘a yes’, but the link doesn’t ever change. If this happens, you can contact the owner after a while and remind them about the link.Track the time you spend with broken link building (finding the links, contacting the owners) in order to calculate ROI. You can calculate this with the following formula:ROI = (number of links) / (time spent * hourly rate)This provides you the result in links per dollar spent. If you want cost per link, you simply need to invert the formula. The aim is that the better you become at broken link building, the better your ROI will get.CONCLUSIONBroken link building is a powerful SEO strategy. It’s easily scalable and can suit businesses operating in a number of niche industries. Nonetheless, it does take quite a bit of time to master and you definitely need to practice it in order to enjoy its benefits to the full. The above steps can help you use the right broken link building tools and tactics, which have been proven to work. You just need to clearly focus on what type of links you are after and test a few contact strategies to find that works for your business.

The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald And Othello

By definition the term corruption is the â€Å"dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery† according to the oxford dictionary. There are many forms of corruption and many ways of corrupting an individual, more often than not the actions at hand may be considered illegal however there are still a multitude of legally corrupted things in this world. In each of the works in question corruption plays a major role in the advancement and continuation of the plot as well as the evolution and detailing of the characters. Both The Great Gatsby by F. On the other hand, In Shakespeare’s Othello, Othello is the plays protagonist and general of Venetian army. Reputation pushes him to value how the other characters see him; his concern for his public portrayal leaves him very vulnerable to manipulation. Here is where Iago comes into effect; he is a very intelligent, manipulative and psychopathic male character seeking revenge on Othello for having snubbed him for lieutenancy. Iago. Ha! I like not that. Othello. What dost thou say? Iago. Nothing, my lord; or if—I know not what. Othello. Was not that Cassio parted from my wife? Iago. Cassio, my lord! No, sure, I cannot think it That he would steal away so guilty like, Seeing you coming. Othello. I do believe twas he. (3.3.37-44) Iago drops subtle hints that he knows of an affair between Desdemona, Othello’s wife, and Cassio, his lieutenant, but after being asked about the topic he follows on denying it and codling Othello so as to stay on his good side. Thus he corrupts Othello’s mind with simple play. An equally significant aspect of corruption in The Great Gatsby and Othello is the role and contributing factor that money brings forth. In Fitzgerald’s novel, the story’s one of the central themes is wealth and the power that it brings to the wealthy. Most characters in The

Mesopotamia vs Egypt Free Essays

Mesopotamia vs. Egypt A civilization is a society in advanced state of social development. Mesopotamia and Egypt are some of the oldest civilizations on history. We will write a custom essay sample on Mesopotamia vs Egypt or any similar topic only for you Order Now One of the most important steps taken for a civilization to occur was the agricultural revolution. This was when man stopped being nomadic and begun to settle down permanently or for long periods of time in one specific area and began living off the lands and raising animals, this as we know is known as the agricultural revolution. Other steps that helped towards the occurrence of civilizations were suitable geographical locations. They needed a reliable water and food source and sometimes good areas for defense or they built their own. The geographical location of both Mesopotamia and Egypt were very important to its success. Both Egypt and Mesopotamia were both located around a river. Not only that both their fertile land was caused because of the rivers, but the difference is that Mesopotamia was located in an area of land between two rivers which caused the land between the rivers to become fertile where as Egypt was located around a river and because of its seasonal flooding fertile soil was dumped onto the backs of the river; perfect for planting crops. The big difference between Mesopotamia and Egypt was that Egypt had excellent natural defense because of its sea to the north, deserts to the east and west, and rapid and mountains to the south. Whereas Mesopotamia had flat land all around the resulting in no natural defense what so ever. Egypt and Mesopotamia both had similar religions. Both societies believe in many gods for example the sun god, river god, fire god and so on. So both civilizations were polytheistic. In the case of Egypt, there were supreme gods such as the sun god Ra, Amon, and Osiris. Each male god had a female goddess consort. Osiris, the god of the dead and of fertility, was married to Isis, the goddess of magic and love. They had a son, named Horus. The Mesopotamian cultures had religions that had many gods and goddesses as well. Male and female divinities, gods and goddesses of war. Ishtar is a major divinity in Mesopotamian religions. Another similarity between the major culture areas religions is that their gods and goddesses often have a human form, and an animal form. When talking about warfare and the wheel the cities of Mesopotamia were walled, to protect themselves from conquest from their neighbors. Warfare developed and became more sophisticated in Mesopotamia. The wheel was developed in Mesopotamia, but the Egyptians never invented it! The Hyksos, who invaded Egypt about 1750 BC, introduced both the wheel and the horse, in the form of the chariot. Egypt developed rather late in terms of the art of war. I conclude that Mesopotamia both have similarities and differences but ultimately affect the way we live today. Thanks to the ideas and trial and error of the ancient civilizations we can live the life we have today. For example, Mesopotamia invented the wheel. Thanks to them we have things such as bikes, cars, trains, airplanes, wheel-barrels and much more. Also, the Hebrew religion was created tens of thousands of years ago and affects many religions today such as Christianity. So I conclude that both Egypt and Mesopotamia played a major role in the development of society and civilization today. How to cite Mesopotamia vs Egypt, Papers

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Essays (2915 words) -

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Obsessive Compulsive Disorder- pg. 1 Introduction and Thesis Introduction When I was young, I used to constantly hum one solitary note every few seconds or minutes throughout the day. I also used to glide the tips of my fingers right behind my ear just so I could be assured that my hair was in place. It was almost impossible to avoid. I was continually asked the question, why do you do that, from my classmates and friends. It was sometimes embarrassing. Then one day, my habit disappeared. Today, my cousin R.J. coughs for no reason every minute. My friend Brian V. constantly picks his rear end, only when driving, thinking hes playing it off. Im always told that I pray more than once before eating my meal. My response is, I did? There are many people who have odd or common habits. Compulsions The most common of these are washing and checking. Other compulsive behaviors include counting (often while performing another compulsive action such as hand washing), repeating, hoarding, and endlessly rearranging objects in an effort to keep them in precise alignment with each other. Mental problems, such as mentally repeating phrases, listmaking or checking are also common. These behaviors generally are intended to ward off harm to the person with OCD or others. Some people with OCD have regimented rituals while others have rituals that are complex and changing. Performing rituals may give the person with OCD some relief from anxiety, but it is only temporary. Insight People with OCD show a range of insight into the senselessness of their obsessions. Often, especially when they are not actually having an obsession, they can recognize that their obsessions and compulsions are unrealistic. At other times they may be unsure about their fears or even believe strongly in their validity. Resistance Most people with OCD struggle to banish their

Precambrian - The Timeline of Biological History

Precambrian - The Timeline of Biological History The Precambrian (4500 to 543 million years ago) is a vast period of time, nearly 4,000 million years long, that began with the formation of the Earth and culminated with the Cambrian Explosion. The Precambrian accounts for seven-eighths of our planets history. Numerous important milestones in the development of our planet and the evolution of life occurred during the Precambrian. The first life arose during the Precambrian. The tectonic plates formed and began shifting across the surface of the Earth. Eukaryotic cells evolved and the oxygen these eary organisms exhaled collected in the atmosphere. The Precambrian drew to a close just as the first multicellular organisms evolved. For the most part, considering the immense length of time encompassed by the Precambrian, the fossil record is sparse for that time period. The oldest evidence of life is encased in rocks from islands off of western Greenland. Theses fossils are 3.8 billion years old. Bacteria that is more than 3.46 billion years old was discovered in Western Australia. Stromatolite fossils have been discovered that date back 2,700 million years. The most detailed fossils from the Precambrian are known as the Ediacara biota, an assortment of tubular and frond-shaped creatures that lived between 635 and 543 million years ago. The Ediacara fossils represent the earliest known evidence of multicellular life and most of these ancient organisms appear to have vanished at the end of the Precambrian. Although the term Precambrian is somewhat outdated, it is still widely used. Modern terminology disposes of the term Precambrian and instead divides the time before the Cambrian Period into three units, the Hadean (4,500 - 3,800 million years ago), the Archean (3,800 - 2,500 million years ago), and the Proterozoic (2,500 - 543 million years ago).

Proposal paper; Claim of policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Proposal paper; Claim of policy - Essay Example â€Å"Contentious Objectors† have no right to claim this status in America today. The United States Armed Forces, every branch, only inducts volunteers. Unlike many foreign countries, Turkey, China, and Israel, where military service is mandatory, the draft is not in effect today in America. Since joining the American military is voluntary, a soldier cannot later claim they did not want to be a soldier. The Iraqi war is not a popular one with American citizens or even Iraqi Veterans. One soldier, Senior Airman Tim Goodrich, even felt compelled to create a website called Iraq Veterans Against the War at http://www.ivaw.org/ (Dahr). Although Tim Goodrich created this site, he served his time in Iraq (Dahr). He is against the war, but felt the need to fulfil his duty. Tim Goodrich did not go AWOL like some of his fellow servicemen. Another soldier has entered politics to protest the war. Tammy Duckworth â€Å"is the only seriously wounded combat veteran running this year for Congress, whose ranks of members with military experience are at their lowest since World War II, according to Congressional Quarterly† (Stone). Creating a website and running for Congress are productive ways of protesting the war, unfortunately not all soldiers protest the war in these healthy ways. Sixty Minutes II reported â€Å"hundreds of American soldiers have broken the law and gone AWOL† since the beginning of the Iraqi war (Rather). These â€Å"Contentious Objectors† are numerous, but on Sixty Minutes II the focus was on Staff Sgt. Camilo Meji (Rather). Staff Sgt. Meji refused to return to Iraq because he felt President Bush and other leaders lied about weapons of mass destruction, but his platoon leader Tad Warfel responded by saying â€Å"His duty’s not to question myself or anybody higher than me,† and â€Å"We’re not paid in the military to form personal opinions or to doubt what our leaders say† (Rather). Both men feel very strongly about their opinions.

Web Accessibility: How Improving Online Communication for the Blind Aid

Many businesses struggle in today’s sluggish economy. According to ShopperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate, total retail sales for Christmas week 2010 dropped 4.1 percent and foot traffic in brick-and-mortar stores fell 6.1 percent (Christmas Week Retail Sales). To increase sales, companies must look for new marketing ideas and revenue streams. Two ideas are using Web advertising and creating online storefronts— ‘click-and-mortar’ stores versus ‘brick-and-mortar’ stores (Journal of Interactive Advertising 2002). Companies also target the massive â€Å"Baby Boomer Generation† to appeal to larger audiences. Businesses increase their Web presence effectively and efficiently by creating sites that appeal to the aging Baby Boomers and to all visually impaired people. They create these sites by using Web accessibility. The term visually impaired describes people reporting difficulty seeing even while wearing corrective lenses as well as those who are blind, according to the American Foundation of the Blind (Facts and Figures). The World Health Organization (WHO) divides vision into four categories: normal vision, moderate visual impairment, severe visual impairment, and blindness. Low vision includes individuals having â€Å"moderate visual impairment† and â€Å"severe visually impairment.† The low vision category includes legally blind individuals; the Braille Institute defines a legally blind person as someone who â€Å"central vision acuity† is 20/200 or less even with corrective lenses, such as glass or contact lenses. Low vision and blindness comprise the spectrum of visual impairment. The WHO states that glaucoma, cataracts, and â€Å"uncorrected refractive errors, such as myopia and astigmatism, are the major causes of visual impairment worldwide. ... ...C/q/id/53349/t/2>. Little White Lies

Shannon Law LITTLE WHITE LIES Have you ever told a lie to somebody? After telling that lie, did you feel guilty about it? Most of the time, people feel guilty or bad if they express their own opinion about something. Telling the truth is always essential for us in everyday life. We can be trusted by other people and at the same time, be able to express and support our own opinions. Honesty can never hurt anyone more than you lying to them. Why did you think Abraham Lincoln was nicknamed â€Å"Honest Abe? † Because he believed that honesty is the best policy. Telling the truth is the most important thing to do. It is better to tell the truth, admit your mistakes, and move on. People should tell the truth all the time to feel more comfortable. Telling the truth makes life so much simpler without having to worry about anything and without having to lag that guilt around that’s trapped inside your body. People appreciate this quality, and that gives value to us. People who tell the truth become more appreciated by other people. We have to keep a good image of ourselves. In order to do that, we must be honest in all situations. If a person lied to you, and you found out that he lied, would you ever trust that person again? Besides, when you tell the truth, it’s easier to support your own idea or opinions because you don’t have to create a completely made up story. People who lie invent a huge history and when you ask them some details, they’re quickly lost in the explanation and they forget some details to make their lie understandable. A good example of a person who thinks that it is essential to telling the truth is Abraham Lincoln. Do you know why Abraham Lincoln was nicknamed â€Å"Honest Abe? It is said that the roots of this nickname start in his early working life. As a young man, Abraham Lincoln worked as a general store clerk. On evening, he was counting money in the drawers after closing and found that he was a few cents over what should have been in the drawer. When he realized that he had accidentally short-changed a customer earlier that day, Lincoln walked a long distance to return the money to the customer. On another occasion, Lincoln discovered that he had given a woman too little tea for her money. He put what he owed her in a package and personally delivered it to the woman, who never even realized that she was not given the proper amount of tea until Lincoln showed up at her doorstep! Lincoln carried his regard for the truth through his years at the White House. He himself was deeply sincere. During the civil war, President Lincoln stated, â€Å"I hain’t been caught lying yet, and I don’t mean to be. † To Lincoln, the truth was not worth sacrificing for any gain, no matter how large that gain may have been. Honestly is good because, for example if you sneaked out in the middle of the night to meet up with your friends and your parents found out, wouldn’t they expect you to come home and explain everything to them truthfully? Wouldn’t they be even angry at you if you lied to their faces? My cousin had a personal experience with this. It happened in the summer of 2010. My cousin, Crystal, and her friends decided to sneak out. Crystal knew that it was wrong but she ended up going anyway. She and her friends decided to go to a club. Crystal and her friends all told their parents that they were sleeping over another person’s house. My aunt (Crystal’s mom) actually ended up calling Nicole’s (Crystal’s friend) house to check up on Crystal to see if she was there. Unfortunately, she wasn’t. While having the best time dancing at the club, Crystal felt a tap on her shoulder, she turned around and this person asked, â€Å"Can I have this dance? † That person ended up being her dad. Crystal and her friends immediately stopped, looked at each other and thought, †Oh no. † All of their parents knew that something was up and somehow put the pieces of the puzzles together and found out where they were. When she got home, her parents were very disappointed with the fact that she lied. Crystal ended up being ground for two weeks. This was the situation where I learned that honestly is the best policy and that lying will get you into more trouble. In conclusion, lying is lying. The part when lying is very bad is when it is deceitful. When you lie too much, nobody will believe you when you actually tell the truth. Your character will always be in question. You will also be known as the â€Å"liar† and people will never know if what you say can be true. Lying makes you untrustworthy and diminishes your character.
